Ms. Beverly Goodwin

There was this teacher, her name was Beverly Goodwin. She was my mom. I can’t remember what elementary school she taught at in Wichita, Kansas. But I can remember this: on several separate occasions, we had students of hers, suffering from difficult home situations, spend nights- sometimes WEEKS at our home in the guest bedroom, and become a part of our “family”, until they could be reunited with their own families again.

She loved to teach her students Art.
She LOVED her students.

And years after she was no longer a teacher, her students recognized her at restaurants and at the mall…and would hug her with tears in their eyes and say she was the best teacher they’d ever had.
